Downtown Austin from above

Dani told me he needed to surprise propose to his girlfriend before they went to Miami for Christmas. It was two weeks before the holiday break and I had only a few dates left before going out of town.

Our first choice date was X’d due to construction at the Azul Rooftop Bar but thankfully we were able to squeeze in right at the last minute for a Friday evening proposal, or “work happy hour” which is what McCayla thought she was headed to.

At 20 floors up, the rain and wind were coooooldddd and fog was rolling in, blanketing downtown Austin and creating a beautiful haze. The a-typical Austin weather kept hotel guests and looky-loos away and allowed us to have the entire rooftop to ourselves.

I was able to hide in plain sight, pretending to be a bar patron with a nice camera. Dani escorted McCayla to the spot overlooking downtown and with some of my pre-coaching said a few words before he got on one knee.

Her marquise cut diamond engagement ring from Diamond’s Direct was a stunner. Easily one of the top 4 rings I’ve seen! Scroll through for a gratuitous “money” shout!

A little rain never hurt anybody.

Even with Dani sending a million texts to confirm and nail down a time/place, running a bit late, losing all the sunlight and dealing with the rain, this was my favorite proposal from 2019.

Big thanks to the staff at the Westin and the bar manager at Azul for offering the umbrella and letting me move furniture around without a complaint!
