Barr Mansion Wedding Photography – Best Austin wedding venues

The Barr Mansion promises they’re “More than just a venue.”

And you can feel that when you book your wedding with them.

A historic mansion (possibly haunted?)

A centuries old tree to say your “I do’s” under

A beautiful ivy covered glass-walled ballroom

Organic, in-house catering leaving you to worry about one less vendor

and for something completely unique:

A modern, open-air, covered Farmstead where guests can mingle and enjoy cocktail hour.

Austin has a lot of beautiful in-town historic mansions but none are quite as grand nor have as much room to roam as the Barr Mansion does. During my consults with my potential new clients, I often hear from couples who say “we don’t want a lot of decor, because the natural beauty of the Barr Mansion is our inspiration!” To me, that is a sign of a solid venue and as a bonus, someone who is my ideal client.

Getting ready details

Couples who book the Barr Mansion usually keep things pretty chill.

Included with your rental is 2 hours of getting ready and vendor prep time, and 5 hours for your ceremony & reception.

Additional time can be purchased, just like with any other vendor and venue.

You should know you’ll need to have your hair/makeup done off site because the upstairs suite does not have power outlets.

But that makes it part of the charm of this venue! A smaller getting ready room means less chaos and noise and a more peaceful start to your wedding day.

Pro Tip: Some couples want the “getting makeup done and party prep” photos to help kick off the fun vibes for your day. In that case, 10-12 hours of coverage is necessary.

For those who DON’T want hair & makeup coverage, and just want “getting into the dress” photos, my 8 hour package will be enough.

Let’s talk about FOOD

Y’all – I don’t know about you, but after a long day – a plate of hot food that tastes good is so welcoming.

The Barr Mansion is the first USDA certified organic event space in the country. They cook, grill, bake, preserve, and ferment the freshest local ingredients pulling directly from their lush gardens and local markets.

They do require you to use their in-house catering – and this is the only required vendor – but couples are allowed to bring their own cakes, (or food trucks) as long as the on-site kitchen is not being used. They bake really good cakes, and if cake isn’t your thing, they can whip up some fun other options as well.

Pro Tip: Why hire an extra vendor for late night snacks when the Barr Mansion has a pizza oven right there? Late night ‘za keeps the party spirits going strong.

How many people can I invite?

The Ballroom has room for 200 people with a seated dinner and a dance floor or 300 without.

Which means if you wanted to have a huge party, you could potentially push the dance floor next door to the Farmstead which has 2800 square feet of space, or onto the Grand Lawn if you don’t expect to have a lot of dancing people.

However, most couples tend to invite around 150 and end up with 90-100 which allows for some space around the tables and room for your photo & video team to stash their stuff within close reach.

The Barr Mansion grounds total almost 30,000 square feet and couples have access to it all. You can use every square foot for pictures, reception-ing and also still have some VIP sections or cozy nooks for more intimate conversations.

I’m proud to be on the preferred vendor list for the Barr Mansion. It’s the best place to have a larger wedding in Central Austin.
