A late-summer outdoor wedding at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center featuring fruit centerpieces, lush peaches and cream florals and a champagne tower instead of a wedding cake.

How It All Started (Yes, It’s A Rom-Com)

Fresh off a red-eye flight on her first night of grad school in New York City, Kat was coaxed by a high school friend to go out for drinks. There, she met Nate, and it was a true rom-com moment. They spent all night in their own little corner talking about their mutual interests, laughing and smiling while conversations flowed around them.
After a few more serendipitous encounters while at school, Nate decided to ask Kat out for a romantic picnic date to watch the lunar eclipse (I know… truly setting the bar.) Fast forward nine years (and a pandemic, a puppy, and plenty of travel later), and they decided it was finally time to celebrate everything they’d built together.

Why They Chose a Wedding at the Wildflower Center
A venue that feels like Texas (in the best way)
Kat & Nate chose the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center because it’s such a perfect representation of Central Texas—especially for out-of-town guests. It’s tucked into South Austin, but once you’re inside, it feels like you’re fully immersed in nature.
Their summer Wildflower Center wedding leaned all the way into that natural beauty, with a palette of citrus tones and soft greens that played perfectly with the surrounding nature.

A Floral, Citrusy, Personalized Vision
From the start, their vibe was obvious: floral, citrusy, and deeply personal.

They travel together a LOT, so instead of traditional table numbers, each table represented a place that meant something to them, like cities and countries tied to their adventures. It was one of those details guests actually notice and talk about (I love anything that makes a wedding personal!)

In lieu of a cake or other gluten-filled desserts, Kat & Nate decided on 2 different options: a champagne tower and a gelato cart from Dolce Bacio Gelato.

Pre-Ceremony Moments (and Beating the Heat)
A Real Austin Summer Wedding
Let’s talk about the weather—because if you’re planning an outdoor wedding in Austin, you already know.
It. Was. Hot. Cook some eggs on the sidewalk hot.
Labor Day weekend in Central Texas is no joke, and while October might be the dream, it’s also peak season here with ACL, Formula 1 and everything else happening all at once. Kat & Nate embraced their date and made it work beautifully. We kept things moving, stayed hydrated, and prioritized comfort without sacrificing the experience.
I helped guide their pre-ceremony timeline so we could get the important portraits done efficiently, without pulling them away from their guests for too long later. Even in the heat, they were completely present, laughing, and just genuinely excited to be getting married.
From My Perspective

I actually love this part of the story: Kat & Nate found me on Google Maps… and we realized we live super close to each other. We’ve even run into each other around the neighborhood before! I always used to say Austin is the smallest big city I’ve ever lived in.
From the beginning, they were incredibly trusting and collaborative—I even recommended their wedding coordinator, Haley at Eclipse, which helped everything run so smoothly. My role on the day was a mix of keeping the timeline on track, adapting to the heat, and making sure they could stay fully present.
Kat later said I felt like part of the celebration, which is always the goal. I’m there to guide when needed, step back when it matters, and capture everything as it naturally unfolds.

Planning Your Own Wildflower Center Wedding
If you’re considering a Wildflower Center wedding, here’s my biggest takeaway from Kat & Nate’s day:
- Embrace the season you choose (and plan for the weather)
- Let the natural setting do the heavy lifting
- Personal details will always matter more than perfection
- Build a timeline that protects your experience, not just your photos
