Austin Proposal Photography

Natural, candid, professional surprise proposal photographer based in Austin, Texas.

Austin's first proposal photographer

You want to make your proposal memorable.

This is the story you’ll tell your kids about the day you asked your better half to marry you. How will you remember this moment? Your friend with a new camera can take a decent photo and you can certainly hand your iPhone to a stranger, but with a professional photographer like me you’ll get beautiful, epic, timeless photos of the moment – a core memory to last forever.

You’ll want to choose someone who has experience in every type of situation and can properly capture the moment you asked the question with ease. I photographed 70 proposals in the last 3 years in addition to 20 weddings so you can feel confident in choosing me to be your photographer.

Why hire a professional photographer?

Hiring a professional proposal photographer to capture the moment shows your commitment to the start of this new chapter in your relationship.

I consider myself the Austin proposal photography expert. From your initial inquiry to after she says "yes!" I'll make sure you have the best experience working with me and get the best photos. I've even gone on to photograph the wedding of about a half a dozen proposal couples!

Proposals are nerve-wracking and stressful as-is, booking your proposal photographer shouldn't be.

How do I hire you for my proposal?

First things first - pick a date. Then, plan a special day for your partner - something that makes them feel special and gives them a chance to get dressed up. Surprise them after a day of pampering with a special proposal at sunset where you've hired a photographer (me) to take the photos.

Depending on the location, whether you've chosen a park or a rooftop downtown, I can either be hiding or introduce myself as a professional photographer hired for a photo shoot. In public places, it can be easier to be introduced and certainly relieves stress for both of us!

What happens after I pop the question?

After you pop the question and the tears have stopped flowing, I'll grab just a few portraits to celebrate the brand-new engagement!

I'll pose and direct you in good light and amazing backdrops for portraits that you'll want to incorporate into your relationship story. You and your partner will want to have a more personal engagement session with your wedding photographer when the time comes.

What can I expect from working with you?

Proposals with me are simple and smooth. After your initial email I'll guide you towards a good spot and even offer a few scenario/cover stories to tell your partner.

In large public areas like parks, nature centers, art museums, etc.you run the risk of someone walking in front of us potentially ruining the photos. In this case, I highly recommend having an exact location pre-planned and/or tell you're partner we're doing a photo session so we can meet up and avoid someone ruining our shot of THE MOMENT.

After I capture the moment they said yes (or just lots of crying and nodding), we'll move into a few cute, casual portraits. A mini, mini engagement session if you will. I'll pose, direct, laugh with you, and hustle to show off the new bling and a couple of photos with your friends & family if they're joining!

In total, we spend around 45-60 minutes together during the proposal itself. Please try your hardest to be on time for your proposal. Austin traffic is notorious for popping up last minute and I don't want you to miss the best lighting.

What should I wear to my Austin proposal?

Austin is a fairly casual town even in the evenings, so chinos or dress pants are welcome as long as they’re hole-free and fit well.

Number 2 rule, clothing should be of the same formality and accent the location. Meaning, it's hard to make sense of someone in running shoes with someone in a full blown cocktail dress and heels showing up to the park.

But most of all, just remember:

You're proposing marriage and you've hired a photographer - try to give your partner a chance at looking their best. If they're really excited to go out and get dressed up or wants to try out something fun and flirty, let's do it!

PS: colorful outfits are always encouraged when you work with me!

What happens if it's raining?

There's an old saying in Texas that goes something like: "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it'll change."

If you’re considering a fully outdoor location as your proposal spot and there happens to be a torrential downpour forecast for that day and throughout the whole time we’ll be together, we’ll touch base the day before or that morning to discuss a rain plan together.

I have more questions!

Let me know what you're unsure about when you fill out the contact form below and I'll see if I can answer it.
