Austin Proposal Photography

Natural, candid, professional surprise proposal photographer based in Austin, Texas.

Austin's first proposal photographer

You want to make your proposal memorable.

This is the story you’ll tell your kids about the day you asked their mom to marry you. How will you remember this moment? Your friend with a camera can take a decent photo (maybe) but with a professional photographer like me you’ll get beautiful, natural, timeless photos of the moment + a few portraits after.

You’ll want to choose someone who has experience in every situation and can properly capture the moment you asked the question with ease. I’m also a full time wedding photographer so you know I can roll with the punches.

Why hire a professional photographer?

Hiring a professional proposal photographer to capture the moment shows your commitment to the start of this new chapter in your relationship.

I consider myself the Austin proposal photography expert. From your initial inquiry to after she says "yes!" I'll make sure you have the best experience working with me and get the best photos. At the end of the day I sometimes feel like I've gained a new set of friends and I'm sad to see you go. I've even gone on to photograph the wedding of many proposal couples.

Booking a proposal photographer should be the least amount of stress.

How do I hire you for my proposal?

First step - pick a date. Then, plan a special day for your partner - something that spoils them and gives them a chance to get dressed up. Surprise them after a day of pampering with a special proposal at sunset where you've hired a photographer (me) to take the photos.

Depending on the location, whether you've chosen a park or a rooftop downtown, I can either be hiding or introduce myself as a professional photographer hired for a photo shoot. In public places it can be easier to do it that way and certainly relieves stress for both of us!

What happens after I pop the question?

After you pop the question and the tears have stopped flowing, I'll grab just a few portraits to celebrate the brand new engagement!

I'll pose and direct you in good light and amazing backdrops for portraits that you'll want to incorporate in your relationship story. Make sure your boo's hands look nice since I'll take a few ring details!

An online gallery with 40-90 high res, files is included. All photos are available as digital downloads.

What should I wear to my Austin proposal?

Austin is a fairly casual town, but depending on the location you choose, you could have the chance to dress up super nice.

Clothing should be of the same formality and accent the location. Meaning, it's hard to make sense of someone in sneakers with someone in dressy attire showing up to the park. Consider trying to convince your partner to dress up for a cocktail event if your proposal location suits a more dressy attire.

But most of all, just remember:

You're proposing marriage and you've hired a photographer - try to give your partner a chance at looking their best. If they're really excited to go out and get dressed up or wants to try out something fun and flirty, choose a location that matches this!

PS: colorful outfits are always encouraged with me!

What happens if it's raining?

There's an old saying in Texas that goes something like: "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it'll change."

Fortunately, Austin is not an extremely wet/rainy city like Portland/Seattle is. It does not rain for long unless there's a torrential downpour forecast which sometimes happens.

Simply put, Texas weather can be fickle - and for that, I recommend choosing a proposal location that has a backup option in case of nasty weather. When you email me, if your location is a popular photo spot, we'll talk about plan B's, C's, and even a plan D for a worst-case scenario. Most proposal locations can be altered to be under an overhang nearby, inside your location, or still outside with umbrellas and we just roll with the weather.

Can you recommend someone to set up flowers at my location?

I would be happy to send you a recommendation for a planner who specializes in proposals and small affairs. They can talk more about adding candles, marquee letters, rose petals and champagne to make the moment super special for your significant other.

What can I expect from working with you?

Proposals with me are simple and smooth. After your initial email I'll guide you towards a good spot and even offer a few scenario/cover stories to tell your partner.

In large public areas like parks, nature centers, art museums, etc.you run the risk of someone walking in front of us potentially ruining the photos. In this case, I highly recommend having an exact location pre-planned and/or tell you're partner we're doing a photo session for whatever reason you want.

After I capture the moment they said yes (or just lots of crying and nodding), we'll move into a few cute, casual portraits. A mini, mini engagement session if you will. I'll pose, direct, laugh with you, and hustle my booty off (potentially tripping on things) to show off the new bling and a couple of photos with your friends & family if they're joining!

In total, we spend around 45-60 minutes together during the proposal itself. Please try your hardest to be on time for your proposal. Austin traffic is notorious for popping up last minute and I don't want you to miss the shot! However, when you book with me, you won't be without a photographer if you are running 10-20 minutes late to your scheduled arrival time.
