In a nondescript white office building you’ve probably passed a hundred times on your commute home, the clock ticked each minute loudly in the silent lobby. The rain continued coming down outside and it looked like no chance of it letting up.

Jade and Bill and I had just met at the gate to the Justice of the Peace for the first time, not 10 minutes before they nervously said their vows and promised to travel together forever.

I loved this intimate downtown Austin elopement with just the 3 of us and no one else around. I think these types of elopements, rain or shine might be my newest photography love.  More couples should consider elopements as a simple way to already legally be married without having to add that extra stress on the wedding day. Think of this as the civil union part and the fun part is with the big ol’ party you can have anywhere after!

We kept it simple, sticking to one location for portraits and really having fun hanging out in the humid, cold afternoon! With all of downtown Austin at our disposal, we chose a covered, urban garage type location and made the best of the driving rain &  hideous weather.

If you could have a cute intimate anywhere in Austin where would you pick for your romantic elopement? Chapel Dulcinea is a popular spot but I’m certain your favorite patio or your best friends’ backyard would be just as cozy.

The best part about Austin and Texas is you can get legally married pretty much anywhere! More info on that to come…

I’m really digging these small elopement weddings so if you’re planning a shindig with just the two of you, or less than 20 people somewhere, get in touch and let me know!elopement in the south austin courthouse justice of the peace, jp weddings in austin, jp wedidng photography, intimate wedding austin a non traditional wedding in downtown austin on a rainy saturday afternoon, indoor wedding at the justice of the peace austin, elopement at the jp in austin texas, ugly courthouse wedding photography, ugly indoor wedding photographsfirst kiss as husband and wife after a short, intimate elopement in an ugly courthouse room with fluorescent lighting and computersemotional austin elopement photographeraustin elopement photographer, rainy elopement photographs, rainy wedding in austin, candid elopement photography in austin tx austin elopement photographer, small wedding photographer, places to take rainy wedding portraits, austin elopementmueller parking garage elopement portraits in the rain, urban elopement photographs during a rainy afternoon in austin downtown austin rainy photo locations for elopements, casual wedding photographs in downtown austinmodern austin elopement photographer, downtown austin elopement, elope in austin, intimate elopement austinromantic detail photograph of a newly married couple after their courthouse elopement at the jp in austin texas, a winter elopement in austin texas, spring elopement photographs in downtown austin

Being a jeans/t-shirt kinda gal I struggle with this question pretty much on the regular. However, I’ve picked up a few things from fashion blogger friends over the years since I graduated. Use this guide to get the best results for what to wear for graduation photos!

Avoid wearing large logos, overly worn and torn clothes and all white or all black. Think about outfits that reflective of your personality and style. Ex: Hats, scarves, lace, neck ties, fun shoes, jewelry are all layerable items that can add interest and texture to your outfit.

Flowing dresses and light colored clothes during the warmer weather and will photograph so pleasantly next to UT’s greenery and natural stone buildings. The UT campus around the south mall is so classic and natural that dressing up a little looks really nice on your grad cards. Think about having a little movement in your outfit and accentuating your best assets! If your session date aligns with cap & gown availability then let me know and we’ll incorporate it into the outfits.

If you plan on wearing heels, and they aren’t easy to walk around in, please consider leaving them at home because you won’t want to waste time changing shoes at each location! If you’re really into heels for a portion of your session, bring along a change of shoes in a bag and have a friend be your bag schlepper so we don’t have to worry about keeping up with it.austin graduation portrait photography, senior portrait photographer in austin, where to take senior pics on UT campus, what to wear to my senior pics

Neon, solids, tight bodycon dresses, and anything that requires constant adjusting the whole session. We’re going to be moving around, utilizing different poses so make sure it passes the “sit test!” (sit on a chair, on the ground, etc. and make sure nothing shows!) Most of all, use your creativity and think of what feeling you want your photos to have.

Generically speaking, wear something you’re comfortable in, that “feels”representative of you and your personality and don’t require fussing and fidgeting all session. If you’ve booked the mini session, remember you only get one outfit so make it work!

For those booking the full session I’ve created a Pinterest guide here so you can glean some inspiration. I get most of it from Stitch Fix’s inspiration gallery as well as subscribing to the service (affiliate link) which has been a life saver for a busy person like me! Personally, I follow/subscribe to two bloggers whose style and budgets align with mine. Style on Target (because who doesn’t love Target?) and my gal, Nicole at Writes Like a Girl.

On a personal note: avoid trying any new facial routines, self tanners or diets less than a week till your session. Any or all of these will make for an uncomfortable session!

If you have any questions after you’ve booked, feel free to reach out and I’ll be happy to point you in a good direction.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Austin is a brunching town. An excuse to drink champagne before noon and act like a Portlandia skit? Brunch is a great way to cure a hangover, celebrate a wedding or just get together with old friends. It can also be a twist on the expected Saturday night wedding and serve donuts, pastries and champagne instead.  Below is a great list of the best places to brunch in Austin.

A classy but not pinky in the air classy kind of joint on the East Side. Takoba has recognizable, moderately portioned Mexican breakfast dishes and $1 mimosas or $7 carafes for those indulgent Sundays. The interior is small but the patio is great and dog friendly. They don’t seat incomplete parties so make sure your herding cats skills are up to snuff and corral everyone beforehand.

The Hightower

brunch at the hightower austin

What to order: The grit waffle, peanut butter, pure cane syrup, banana brûlée.

Everything seems to be opening on the east side lately – which makes sense when you see delicious, beautiful looking dishes like this arrive. The Hightower is great for larger parties and the brunch menu is extensive. Bonus: this cozy east side place takes reservations!

La Condesa

Fresh, Mexican style brunch in a chic, colorful and vibrant space downtown. The menu is far from basic but there is something for everyone on it! A well loved space, you can’t go wrong with.

VOX Table

The price is approachable for these upscale brunch items. I ordered the stuffed french toast and it was DIVINE. Sweet, but not sickly so, creamy and delightful. The second time, I ordered the pork shoulder hash, with an egg on top. Also, $1 mimosas with slightly better caliber of bubbly! What’s not to love?

I could go on, but my friend Amber wrote a much more comprehensive and well appropriated list of cheap mimosas and the best places. See her post here. Also, check out A Taste of Koko for more!

What would you do if: an Austin windy cold front blows through at the last minute and your DJ got in a wreck the day and totaled his car and couldn’t get out to your wedding? You tough out the wind and laugh as whips your sash ribbons around, plug in your phone, play Spotify and say “oh well!” Audrey and Alex chose Heritage House in Dripping Springs for a brunch wedding and as my last wedding of 2016 I’m sad it will be my only time out there because the venue is closing!

These two LOVE brunch (who doesn’t?) so Dagar’s did the catering and Audrey’s pastry chef friend made the amazing cake!

The whole day was a sweet, laid-back, non-stress day that is so refreshing to come across in this crazy wedding industry sometimes. I can’t begin to tell you just how cool, down to earth and awesome Audrey & Alex are so I’m going to let the photos hopefully speak for me.
